DESCRIPTION:Burning of the Socks on Lake Texoma 2026\nThe annual Lake Texoma Burning of the Socks will be held March 14th and March 21st\, 2026.  This unique event invites everyone out to various marinas and resorts around Lake Texoma as mariners welcome the arrival of spring.  this is a Lake Texoma tradition that you won’t want to miss! \nBuncombe Creek -March 14th\nJoin us March 14th at Buncombe Creek Marina for our annual Burning of the Socks celebration as we welcome spring and the start of boating season.  Join us for a fun-filled day featuring 30+ local vendors\, live music\, a Polar Plunge with no sign-up required\, kids games\, a free hot dog roast\, food trucks\, and a separate bonfire just for burning your socks. \nCedar Mills – March 14th\nJoin us on March 14th for a fun day of activities at the Lodge in the RV Park.  Activities include Kids Birdhouses and crafts at 2 pm\, Hot Dogs and Cold drinks after crafts.  Burning of the socks from 3 pm – 4 pm.  Welcoming of Spring at 7 pm in the Lakeside Room at Pelican’s Landing with the Trickbag band (Z Top Cover Band). \nFlowing Wells Resort – March 21st\nFlowing Wells Resort will have their Burning of the socks on March 21st. \nHighport Marina – March 21st\nSay goodbye to inter and welcome warmer days with this fun lakeside tradition.  Food\, music\, and good vibes!  Boat Show that weekend Friday the 20th through Sunday the 22nd. Burning of the Socks on March 21st \n  \nThe Legend\nLegend has it that the manager of the Annapolis Yacht Yard\, Captain Bob Turner\, decided as he was leaving work on the first day of spring\, to burn his socks.  Over the years\, the tradition has expanded along the east and west coasts and in between. \nWhat began in the 1970’s by east coast mariners has come to Lake Texoma. Terri Weir\, former Lake Texoma Association Director\, brought the idea to Lake Texoma in 2015. From only a few participants that first year\, the event continues to grow with more Lake Texoma Marinas participating and more activities being added each year. \nMariners all over the country will be holding sock burning events to shed heavy winter wear for summer attire.  In Texoma Flip Flop season begins with the week of the Spring Equinox which marks the moment when the center of the sun appears directly overhead at the Equator.
