Denison Damsite Campground Lake Texoma

Denison Damsite Campground is  located on the Red River along the Texas-Oklahoma border on the Texas side of the spillway.  The campsites are within walking distance of the Red River. Campgrounds offer showers, rest rooms, dump stations, group shelter, fishing docks and frost free faucets.

Below the Denison Dam, fishing the Red river, rafting and fossil hunting are popular activities. Four stairwells provide access to the river. “The Wall” is located near the generating station and is open to fishermen.  Consider the strong current flow when the generators are operating.  Texas Freshwater fishing license is required for the Texas side of the river, if you go wading you will need an Oklahoma Fishing License.

The Striper fishing in the “River” has produced some monster catches with reports of 30+ pound catches.    If you want to catch a big striped bass, the tailrace below Lake Texoma’s Denison Dam may be the place to go!

Beautiful bluebonnets blanket the area in spring and the Denison Dam Site is a popular spot for nature and wildlife photographers.

The Denison Dam is an earthen dam completed in 1944 forming Lake Texoma. The Denison Dam impounds 93,000 acres of land and under normal circumstances holds back 90,000 acres of water. Located on Hwy 91 the site is easily accessible from Hwy 75, west on Hwy 91.

Lake Texoma is a flood control reservoir, providing hydroelectric energy and municipal water supply to a large section of North Texas.
