TV Munson Vineyard and Enology Center

The T.V. Munson Memorial Vineyard was established in 1974 on Grayson College’s West Campus Extension through the generosity of the W.B. Munson Foundation in memory of T.V. Munson. Dr. Munson experimented with and developed over three hundred varieties of grapes in the Denison, Texas area. Currently, over 60 of the original varieties are grown in the T.V. Munson Memorial Vineyard, in addition to other hybrid and vinifera grape varieties.

TV Munson

People who know a little about Munson recognize him as one of the Americans who helped Europe deal with their vineyard-destroying phylloxera crisis. That was one of his many accomplishments, but one that still draws French winemakers to Denison, Texas, in pilgrimage to a shrine that saved their lives.  TV Munson’s involvement with the French wine trade earned Denison Sister City status with Cognac France. Every year fresh root stock is cut and shipped to growers around the world.  It is said that there is a “little bit of Texas in every sip of French wine”.

Grayson College Viticulture and Enology Program

Grayson County College’s Viticulture & Enology program is one of the few degree grape growing and wine making programs in the country, and the first of its kind in a Texas community college. Grayson College’s timely offering of the program corresponds with the growing popularity of vineyard and winery operations in the southwest United States.

Museum, Greenhouse and walkways open 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Mon.–Fri.
