Dallas Cowboy Hall of Famer Randy White Fishes Lake Texoma to Benefit North Texas Children

#54 Randy White loves Football, Fishing, and Philanthropy. He joined with Striper Express Guide Service and auction winner Ken McDonald to benefit The Warren Center, a Dallas non-profit serving children with developmental disorders.

Ken McDonald Jr. and dad Ken Sr. enjoyed a day fishing Lake Texoma while talking football with Cowboy’s Hall of Fame legend Randy White. The McDonalds also aided an area children’s charity while doing it.

White donated a day of his time to benefit the non-profit Warren Center of Dallas, Texas. Ken McDonald Jr. made the substantial winning bid for Randy’s day during the Center’s Annual Fantasy Football Draft Night. The Warren Center provides support, early childhood intervention, and therapy services for North Texas children with developmental challenges.

“My wife Tanya and I love the Warren Center and the work they do for children. When the annual fundraiser auction included a fishing charter with Hall of Fame Dallas Cowboy Randy White, it was a no-brainer,” Ken exclaimed. “The first class work by Captain Chris Carey with Striper Express Guide Service was the icing on the cake. We caught upwards of 100 fish.”

Captain Chris Carey of Striper Express Guide Service described his celebrity guest, “Randy White is down to earth, a pleasure to be with, and a great fisherman. Randy entertained the entire group with football story after football story.”

Big fans of the Dallas Cowboys, Ken Jr. and his father celebrate the same birthday and both enjoy fishing.

Ken Sr. was the most successful angler of the day, both in size of catch and number of fish landed. “This was an awesome experience. Fishing with Randy White, and watching my dad kick our butts all day long,” Ken Jr. said.

Lake Texoma May 2017 Fishing Report

The fishing on Lake Texoma has been wonderful this Spring and the Summer bite should be great as well!!

I’ve been catching them from 3 to 35 feet of water either on swimbaits or slabs. Recently the swimbait bite has been best for me for the 15-19 inch Striper as well as the bigger 10-13 lb striper! Slabs will give you great action with some smaller fish as well!

Striper and Sand Bass are returning from the spawn daily and will be extremely hungry and cruising points, ledges, and chasing bait up onto the flats to fill their bellies. The Sand Bass will pile up on points with deep water access and will be easy to find with your electronics.

You can either drift over these points or anchor up and expect some fast action bouncing slabs off the bottom or reeling them up fast through a thicker school. The striped bass will be cruising deepwater ledges searching for an easy meal. Using your electronics, scan these ledges and locate a cluster of fish. Stop and drift the ledge and fish using slabs bounced off the bottom or heavy deepwater swim baits slow rolled just above the bottom to catch you some big, hungry, line stripping Striper!

As the water continues to warm the schooling size striped bass (box fish fewer than 20 inches) will form large schools and cruise open deepwater chasing bait. A good method for catching these open deepwater fish is using heavy slabs and dropping them down through the school and then reeling them back up as fast as possible through the schools of Striper. We call this “rippin’ slabs”! This technique can be very effective on deepwater schools.

Sometimes these fish hit so hard while you’re rippin’ it will almost yank the fishing rod right out of your hand! Often times the larger Striper won’t be in these large deepwater schools of box fish; they often like to cruise around in smaller groups or even by themselves, so don’t be afraid to look around away from all the boats and outside the main schools of Striper for some of these bigger fish.

The Sand Bass and Striper will also chase bait from deepwater up onto some of the numerous flats on Lake Texoma. They will chase this bait up into as shallow as 10 feet of water. Watch for schooling fish on the surface, or seagulls diving, or also keep an eye out for the large blue herons hovering over the water. These blue herons are some of the best fish finders on the lake…Don’t ever ignore them!! Always have a good pair of binoculars on board your boat to help you out.

Lake Texoma | April 29, 2017

March and April not my favorite time for fishing stripers on Lake Texoma. It’s always cold and windy. But it is a wonderful time for spring break, flowers blooming, and beautiful sunrises.

Then it’s time to head to the boat dressed in winter, 100 MPH foul weather gear, and nice warm underwear. It’s just part of the gear for those in a boat, running 35 MPH across a lake for Stripers! I have long known, 23 years guiding on Lake Texoma, that this was the drill, and have been in 23-degree cold factor weather, and the fish don’t know that! When I drop anything down that resembles food, Bam, all thoughts of weather disappear, almost. Fish this time of 2017, early part of spring, are somewhat smaller as the big bad babies are sunning in the creeks, having babies. Kind of has a ring to it, don’t it? Anyway, the joy of leaving the docks, with whatever is your method, is exciting, and challenging.

All thoughts of weather are diminished by conversation, and the thrill of being away from work, school, or whatever. 23 years of this guiding has let me enjoy the beautiful sky’s, great fishing, conversations with new and old customers who love to fish! I can’t think of anything better I could have decided to do than Guiding on Lake Texoma, the Striper capital of the world! Oh yes, the Lake Texoma early spring fishing report.

Now days, your guess is as good as mine, relative to size, but you’re going to catch fish, and lots of them, at least with CrossCreek Guide Service. I fish mainly with artificial (umbrella rigs) trolling for big fish, and bait for helping to get a limit of 10 fish per person, 2 of them over 20 inches. Better days I catch so many overs, I am constantly throwing them back until I get that box fish of under 20 inches fish. I charge $300 for two people, and $100 thereafter, cause I am worth it. Not to mention, I am full of something lots of people call entertaining. Call it what you like. I clean and red meat your catch, bag them for eating, the way I clean mine to eat.
