Summer Music on Main Concert Lineup Announced for Levitt AMP Denison Music Series

The countdown to an unforgettable season of free concerts under the stars in Denison is underway! The Levitt AMP Denison Music Series announced its impressive lineup of artists who will perform at Heritage Park each Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. from May 27 to July 29. So grab your family, friends and neighbors and get ready to head to Downtown Denison!

Sponsored in part by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a private family foundation that empowers communities to transform neglected public spaces into thriving destinations through the power of free, live music, the Levitt AMP Denison Music Series will present 10 free, family-friendly concerts to the public this summer at Heritage Park. The series will feature a diverse lineup of high caliber talent spanning genres from Texas country to ZydeCajun to NewGrass.

Kicking off the series at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 27, is The Santa Fe Line, a local group with a Newgrass/Americana/Progressive Roots sound.  The band’s new EP, “The Cowtown Sessions”, was released in April! Some members grew up playing traditional bluegrass, and crowds enjoy the band’s ability to perform tight 3 and 4 part harmonies. Guymon & McCann will open the evening.

Also scheduled to perform are Big Joe Walker who presents his bold brand of Texas Country on June 3 with opener Oliver White; Band of Heathens, an Austin-Based Americana/Roots Rock band, on June 10 with support from Jared Mitchell; John Fullbright, a Grammy-nominated Americana Songwriter, will perform on June 17 with support from Sons of Fannin;  Nicnos, an OKC-based eclectic rock, blues, and fiddle band, will perform on June 24 with opener the Music Ninjas; Whiskey Myers, loud and proud country/southern rock band, will play July 1 with opener Southern Company; Dawn & Hawkes, an indie-folk/Americana duo from Austin will perform July 8 with support from Two Gun Hattie; Wayne Toups, the Grammy-winning Kind of ZydeCajun will play July 15 with support from E. J. Mathews; Danielle Nicole, a Kansas City blues/roots/soul singer, will perform on July 22 with opener Chris Colston; and Billy Joe Shaver, a renowned Texas Country Singer-songwriter, will round out the season on July 29 with opener Designated Drifters.

The public is invited to bring their own picnics, blankets and lawn chairs to the concerts, which will have an open lawn setting. The Levitt AMP concert series is located at 324 W. Main in Downtown Denison, Texas, at the corner of Main and Burnett. Admission is free.

Last January, Denison was named one of 15 small to mid-sized towns and cities across America to win a Levitt AMP [Your City] Grant Award of $25K in matching funds to present a free concert series at Heritage Park in 2016. Denison Main Street submitted the Levitt AMP proposal and is presenting the concert series. In an effort to inspire and engage communities across the country around the power of creative placemaking, the Levitt Foundation invited the public to choose the Top 25 Finalists through online voting.
